Do you ever feel uncomfortable, uneasy with a sense of dread that you just cannot explain? Has the problem been growing over a period of time and you feel it is about to get out of hand? Are you having physical symptoms like dizziness and shortness of breath, maybe an increased pulse rate?

These and other similar sensations are common for many of us. They may start from an event or an appointment you have a month down the road or they may come on suddenly from some unexpected situation you find yourself in. The uneasy feelings may even be there for no apparent reason, an ever present heaviness that doesn’t go away. A full blown panic attack may not be very far away. There are many, many fears and phobias and unnamed conditions that fall into the category of panic or anxiety attacks that I want to explore here in the future.

The details of some of the fears people have may seem trivial, or illogical, or just plain crazy, but if you are the one with this kind of problem it’s no joke. Many individual lives and many families are made miserable by trying to deal with panic related conditions. There is help and it comes in various forms, including drugs, therapy, or self help courses. But the first step is admitting you need help and then doing the research into your particular problem.

Knowledge can be best weapon sometimes and knowing you are not alone can be comforting in ways that you never realized. Life is too short to be missing some of the best times because of these fears.

By: M. Altman

About the Guest Author:

Do you know how to recognize panic attack symptoms? Can you tell if you are having an anxiety attack or, is it a heart attack. Symptoms can be very similar. Panic or anxiety attack signs can be very subtle. If you feel any of the symptoms we will reveal in this article it may be prudent to discuss them with your doctor or specialist.

Just what is a panic or anxiety attack? It is a physical, or more often mental, condition where real or perceived threats invade one’s body. These threat cause an increase in adrenaline that shifts the defense mechanisms of your body into high gear. The attack can last several minutes or be over in a few seconds. Learning to separate actual threats from perceived ones is one way of dealing and eventually curing panic attacks.

You must learn to recognize panic attack symptoms in order to rule out a more serious condition. Heart attacks can have symptoms that mirror anxiety attacks and obviously, those will require immediate medical attention.

Here are a few of the sensations you may feel when having a panic attack. Dizziness leading to a sense of panic or pending danger, tightness in the throat and chest, shortness of breath, racing of the heart, obsessive worries and unwanted thoughts. Can you see how some of these symptoms are similar to a heart attack? You mat also notice that you do not feel connected to what is going on around you and have an overwhelming fear that these sensations will push you over the edge.

The good news is that most times panic attacks won actually hurt you. The symptoms will usually subside on their own within a few minutes. Learning to cope with panic attacks is a band aid approach and not as permanent as learning to cure them.

Before you begin on a road to recovery you must first know how to recognize panic attack symptoms. Hopefully, this brief article has given you some useful advice in that direction.

By: Steve Kettle

About the Guest Author:

A Panic Attack may require consulting a psychologist, or a behavioral therapist for that matter, regarding panic attacks may well be the very best course of action you can do for your self. That is, in the event you aren’t convinced that you just can really support your self out of the problem. But you can’t forever rely on drugs and medical practitioners to give you assist. Somehow you could have to take action; you might have to learn to cope. Here are some ideas that could help you psyche your self into coping with panic attacks.

You happen to be what you feel. When you believe that that you are fearful of something, you would in fact come to be fearful of that point, regardless of how irrational that fear could be. In the event you expect that you just would have anxiety attacks any time soon, you might truly enter into one. The mind is so powerful that it could trigger experiences that are frightening enough to trigger you extreme levels of panic sensations. With this similar capacity at your disposal, you could potentially reverse the power of your respective mind and use it to your advantage.

Based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a psychotherapeutic approach, a individual has the capacity to manipulate dysfunctional reactions, emotions, cognitions and behaviors in order to arrive at a a lot more cohesive and healthier well-being. Given that your attacks are triggered by your brain, you could potentially support your brain tone down certain signs and symptoms by just trying to fix its dysfunctions. While simple positive thoughts can help you direct your experience of panic attacks, more intensive and systematic Cognitive Behavioral Therapies can offer you an atmosphere of peace that may be free of charge from panic attacks.

Run towards the object of your fearfulness. Individuals have the natural tendency to get away from things, places and events that caused them bad experiences. But the point is, running away from some thing would not enable release you from your fearfulness, it may possibly really aggravate your condition. This is mainly because you’re somehow reinforcing your fearfulness by feeding in much more dosages of fearfulness to your current condition which is the last thing you ought to truly wish to do when dealing with your panic attack.

By: Arjun Collier

About the Guest Author:

Panic attacks are sudden surges of overwhelming fear that that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. Causes of panic attacks are not known precisely but doctors do know that they are caused by a small organ in the brain called the Amygdala. Panic attacks are often experienced by sufferers of anxiety disorders and other psychological conditions involving anxiety, though panic attacks are not always indicative of a mental disorder, nor are they uncommon. These attacks are sudden feelings of terror that strike without warning. Panic attacks are generally brief, lasting less than ten minutes, although some of the symptoms may persist for a longer time. This startling data means that anxiety attacks and panic attacks are the most common emotional disorders and are more common than bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, phobias, alcohol abuse or depression. Though it is often a purely terrifying feeling to the sufferer, panic attacks are actually an evolutionary body response known as the fight-or-flight response occurring out of context. First time panic attacks are usually one of the worst experiences of a person’s life. Ending a panic attack and making sure that it will not recur is the dream of every sufferer.

What Are the Symptoms Of Panic Attack?

If you have experienced a panic attack, you will know the symptoms all too well. Symptoms include fatigue, palpitations, anxiety, and migraine headaches , trembling or shaking, sensations of shortness of breath or smothering, feeling of choking, chest pain or discomfort, nausea or abdominal distress, dizziness or light-headedness, depersonalisation, fear of losing control or going ‘crazy’, fear of dying, paresthesia, and chills or hot flushes. Symptoms peak within 10 minutes and usually dissipate within minutes, leaving little for a doctor to observe except the person’s fear of another terrifying attack. You might not identify with all panic attack symptoms but this does not mean that you aren’t having panic attacks, everyone reacts differently. Experiencing four or less panic attack symptoms could mean you are experiencing limited symptom panic attacks.

What Are The Causes of Panic Attacks?

Possible causes include heredity, other biological factors, stressful life events, and overreacting to normal bodily sensations. Moreover, the release of adrenaline during a panic attack causes vasoconstriction resulting in slightly less blood flow to the head which causes dizziness and light-headedness. The exact causes of panic disorder are unknown at this point. Fear, an emotion that evolved to deal with danger, causes an automatic, rapid protective response that occurs without the need for conscious thought. . Panic attacks, sometimes also called anxiety attacks, are caused by the body reaching a level of anxiety which causes us to experience a group of the most extreme symptoms of anxiety. This inappropriate level of anxiety, which causes a panic attack, is usually reached when an anxiety-provoking situation causes an over-production and under-use of Adrenalin, the hormone responsible for the anxiety reaction There are a number of physical causes that could be causing or contributing to your panic attacks: unstable blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia) can be the result of poor eating habits, dieting and fasting.

How Can You End Panic Attacks?

There are many sites which deal with this problem. If you would like to find out more about the causes
of panic attacks and how to end panic attacks, you will find the following site very helpful.

By: Robert William Locke

About the Guest Author:

Panic heart attack symptoms are very similar, and many people get them confused.

The only way to be one hundred percent sure is to seek medical assistance when you feel the symptoms. Obviously, you cannot be sure either way unless you are a Doctor yourself, so it really is a good idea to get checked out, just in case!

The first time I had a panic attack, I thought I was having a heart attack! If you look at the symptoms of the two, you will see that they are very similar and it is really easy to misinterpret a panic attack as a heart attack. I had an ambulance called and everything, I was so frightened!

It felt as if my heart was beating out of my chest, it was pounding that hard, who wouldn’t think that was a heart attack? It was also quite painful, not in the sense of extreme pain, but a definite physical discomfort!

I couldn’t work out what they were, the panic heart attack symptoms I was experiencing, all I know is that it was very uncomfortable! I became very sweaty and conscious of the fact that I wasn’t actually aware of what was going on around me.

I couldn’t think straight, my head was wandering all over the place! I felt as if I couldn’t breathe and all in all, I seriously panicked! This probably, in turn, made the panic attack that much worse!

I don’t think you can ever really be sure whether the panic heart attack symptoms you are feeling are one or the other, and the only way to find out once and for all is to go to your Doctor and have all of the appropriate tests and examinations done!

By: Robert Barnard

About the Guest Author:

Panic attack and diabetes can be a worrying combination. Some of the feelings can be similar, thus, the person may be unsure if it’s panic or diabetes.

The problem with panic attacks is that it has a way of imitating other serious conditions, such as diabetes, asthma or even a heart attack. This uncertainty is very distressing.

Panic attacks can sometimes feel like hypoglycemia (abnormally low level of glucose in the blood). Either condition can make you feel weak and dizzy. Herein lies the problem.

Treating Panic Attacks Can Prevent Diabetes From Worsening

You may end up adjusting your blood sugar level when you need not have, because it may well have been the panic attack that caused you to feel this way. Panic can therefore cause your diabetes to worsen.

It’s very important for you to work closely with your doctors, for both diabetes and anxiety. Even though the anxiety attacks are not serious in itself, you can see the problems it can cause.

Diabetes may be a serious condition, but because of the complications caused by your panic and anxiety, pay as much attention in dealing with this problem as well.

Panic attacks are treatable. Depending on how lucky you are, it can get better, reduce in frequency and intensity or completely disappear. It can also trouble you again in the future.

This is because everyone is different. If you have diabetes as well, it’s more important for you to treat the panic than for someone who JUST has panic attacks and no other condition.

Once your panic attacks get better, maintain what you’ve learned so that if it ever came back, you can deal with it quickly.

Tricks To Help During A Panic Attack

Here are a couple of methods I’ve used in the past to help with panic attacks. If you’re having an attack, try to concentrate on sounds around you, perhaps even people talking.

A doctor once asked me to count backwards in threes from 100. This exercise, plus the fact that my mathematics is pathetic caused me greater discomfort than the panic attack! 97…92..no, wait, 94…

But seriously, panic attack and diabetes seem to have an unfortunate link. Get help for your panic attacks so that it doesn’t interfere as much with your diabetes.

By: Giri Anantha

About the Guest Author:

Having a panic attack can be scary. Even worse, not knowing the symptoms of a panic attack can be scarier. So, what I’m going to do is share with you the symptoms of panic attacks. That way, you will know what to do when you have an attack.

I’m going to breakdown the symptoms into three categories The categories are perceptual symptoms of a panic attack, physical symptoms of a panic attack, and mental symptoms of a panic attack.

Perceptual Symptoms of a Panic Attack

When you experience a panic attack, your perception becomes altered. Your perception of yourself and the world becomes drastically altered, which leaves you feeling like the time is slowing down and speeding up, you began having tunnel vision, and your senses become heightened.

Physical Symptoms of a Panic Attack

The physical symptoms are the most recognizable of all the symptoms of panic attacks. The physical symptoms are tightness in your chest and increase heart rate. The tightness in your chest could lead to heart palpitations, hyperventilation, dizziness, and headaches.

The tightness in your stomach could lead to nausea and stomach pains.

Mental Symptoms of a Panic Attack

People who have a panic attack usually experience severe mental symptoms. You will experience irrational thinking or having racing thoughts, which leaves you feeling like things around you aren’t real, feeling like you’re going insane, and feeling like something bad is going to happen to you.

These are the symptoms of a panic attack. If you notice that you are having these symptoms, you should to do something about it. Not doing anything about it will cause your attacks to get worse.

By: Tony Smith

About the Author:

(c) 2008 Sandy Adamson

Before we dive into learning the different types of panic attacks, it may be worthwhile to first clarify the difference between anxiety and panic. In our daily communications, people tend to use these two terms interchangeably without realising their difference. Sure, these two have lots of in common with respect to their symptoms, but panic attacks usually last only a short while, though more intense. As a contrast, anxiety strikes you more gradually, is less intense, but lasts longer.

Based on whether a panic attack connects to a triggering situation and how it connects to such situations, panic attacks are grouped into three types:

1. Unexpected Panic Attacks

This type of attack is often associated with panic disorder. It occurs spontaneously without any clear reasons, and irrespective of whether you are relaxing or working. This means that we can hardly relate the occurrence of a spontaneous attack to any specific situation or place. As you may have seen in the movies, people can be awakened from sleep with this type of attack.

2. Situationally-bound Panic Attacks

As its name suggests, this type of panic attack is triggered by a specific situation. For example, if you fear flying or public speaking, exposure to these situations will result in immediate panic attacks. This ‘cued’ attack is rarely experienced in panic disorder.

3. Situationally-predisposed Panic Attacks

This type of panic attack is similar to the above one in that it is also triggered by a specific situation. However, the difference is that the attacks only sometimes occur and may not always occur immediately after exposure to the feared situation. For example, if flying is your feared situation, there are times when you take a flight without having a panic attack. However, in some other times, you do not suffer panic attack until you finish your journey for some while. In other words, you are predisposed to having attacks while taking flights, but the attacks are not a sure response to the fear of flying. People with panic disorder may experience this type of attack.

As you may probably understand, some panic attacks are just phobias over a particular event or place, but others may be truly medical conditions which you should take seriously. It is reported that approximately 19 million people in the United States are panic attack sufferers and they experience a variety of symptoms during panic attacks. Many, however, do not take panic attacks seriously or believe they deserve treatment as a medical condition. It is true that many people who have experience of panic attacks never have further episodes or complications. However, you should keep in mind that chronic occurrence of panic attacks can be a sign of panic disorder, which deserve immediate medical help. Quite often, major disorders could prevent a sufferer from pursuing normal daily routines.

With different types of panic attacks and their different levels of complications, various ways of medical interventions are used. Those commonly used ways of treament include traditional medicine, behavorial therapy, and alternative medicines. In many other instances, however, people are able to live with their panic attacks or use self-help techniques to get out of the situations.

By: Sandy Adamson

About the Author:

Panic attacks can effect your quality of living and drag you down from doing the things you enjoy. If you have ever experienced a panic attack, then you know the feeling of terror that accompanies them, as well as the crippling fear that it might happen again. If you are one of the three million Americans who have had multiple panic attacks, you should know that there are ways to control panic attack symptoms.

The symptoms are similar to a heart attack, and a sensation that you have lost touch with reality and an impending dread often accompanies the physical symptoms. While you might end up in the emergency room the first time, this is not adequate treatment. In order to control panic attack symptoms, you need to help prevent them in the first place.

Options

One option is to consult a physician about getting treatment Some medicines on the market can help panic attack sufferers from reoccurrences. Another option available is cognitive-behavior therapy. This method utilizes visualization, breathing and relaxation techniques to fend off the symptoms of a panic attack when they occur.

Another option that some sufferers choose to help control panic attack symptoms is to actually face the fears. For some, gradually confronting the situations that cause panic can help eradicate them. There is method to this treatment, and it should be undertaken under the care of a physician or therapist so as not to aggravate the problem.

Chronic panic attacks, known as Panic Disorder, are a serious medical condition that can drastically affect the quality of your life.
Ask anyone who lives with the fear of panic attack symptoms. It’s certainly an uncomfortable thought not know when the next panic attack symptom will emerge.

Panic attack is described as an intense and sudden feeling of fear and anxiety. In fact, people having a panic attack may very well think they are experiencing a heart attack. Panic attack symptom includes rapid heart beat, trembling, shallow breathing at a quickfire pace, light headedness and pins and needles.

Living with the fear of the unknown – not knowing when the next panic attack will occur – can be alleviated somewhat with medications. Some medications can reduce the symptoms of panic attack quite significantly although, there is no real cure for panic attack. While medications can alleviate some of the symptoms of panic attack it’s certainly not a good idea to continue taking them. Speaking with panic attack specialists, the one common message among them was that sufferers must first isolate the cause of their panic attack before can they begin to deal with it. Knowing what triggers a panic attack episode will go a long way in keeping any future episodes under control.

It’s important to point out that while a panic attack is an uncomfortable experience, it will only last for 30-40 minutes. You won’t die from a panic attack as some people wrongly believe. Research has shown that the tendency to be anxious can possibly be inherited through our genes although further research is needed to set this theory in concrete.

Talking about your panic attack problem, believe it or not can help. A trusted friend or relative, perhaps someone who has experienced panic attacks themselves but it’s understandable panic attack sufferers in the main, prefer to keep quiet about there condition.

Perhaps getting in touch with self help groups or something similar may provide a more comfortable and secure environment in discussing your panic attack symptoms. Your physician should be able to point you in the right direction. Relaxation control methods can be very effective, while going to the extreme, but in most instances, effective treatment; then psychotherapy could be a last resort.

Panic attack sufferers should definitely avoid alcohol. Thinking alcohol can relieve panic attack symptoms is a big mistake. About one in three sufferers will turn to alcohol and it’s understandable that foremost on their minds is relieving their panic attack symptoms. However, more than likely, bouts of depression will follow leaving them worse off and causing further problems. Certainly consuming one, maybe two drinks is not likely to cause undue stress but abusing alcohol and going over the limit will trigger further panic symptoms in most cases.

For severe panic attack sufferers life can be very miserable. Often, episodes may occur unexpectedly several times during a day and if this is you, then you really should consult a physician.

By: Dean Caporella

About the Author:
